3D PRINTING

Design that Explores Clean/Better Technologies

Reducing systems of production with less energy consuming and smarter technologies to reduce environmental impacts. As designers, we can create cleaner system and products. Social media is already changing the way products are purchased and manufactured. We are now able to buy online, in less than 5 minutes. It's a direct link between consumers and industry.  Digital print as well as laser and nano technology reduce the need for pigments, threads, coatings and adhesives. New technologies such as Info-Red-Scanning can detect different textile types. Other technologies can chemically break different fibers into seperate parts.

Vincent Callebaut (belgian architect) made plans to extend 3D printing. He invisioned an underwater colony from 3D printed plastic wate . Situated off shore of Rio de Jenairo. The architect tried to rpovide 10 000 housing units, including gardens, office space, sea farms and more. Named Aequorea ( after a jelly fish Aequorea Victoria), is a  fictional city based on water.  The concept shows how we can connect the natural resources with waste, wchich is being dumped in the water. Algoplast would be used to print 3D towers (1 000 in total). Architect decided that new energy resources would be used by the citizens, as well as gill masks, to make breathing underwater easier. Vegetable gardens would be grown on top of the structures... It's all presented ina form of a latter, written by Callebaut.

"Never forget this: oceans produce 50 per cent of our planet's oxygen. They are the most active lung! Well worth the trouble of cleaning to re-enchant our living together, don't you think?"

In my opinion, 3D prining could open a way to healthier industry. It prevents wasting materials by producing a designed object, which means there's no mistake and only necessary amount of material is used. Great to reduce the costs. It's a way to not only recycle but also use biodegradable materials. Companies are now inviting consumers to be a part of it, byt having a consumer recycling system. Empty recycle catridges can by sent by post or either at a meet up. It has a much better potential being a social event. I think the industry has innovating new ideas, that can let sonsumers have a cleaner future.
