Design to Reduce Energy and Water Use
A very high amount of water and energy are being used. At times, for example, when converting raw materials into fiber and then into fabric. It continues later on, when consumers use it and at the end, being re-used or thrown away. To make a change, designer could choose theright materials. Polyster requires loads of energy during production, and cotton uses up to 29 000 liters of water per kilogram. An alternative for it could be hemp or bamboo. Istead of dying, treating and washing (which has high water impact), we could employ new innovations such as O3 zone technology. It reduces up to 90% water usage.
Employing new innovations could also mean looking at diffrent way of living. A portable house. It's wise portability and flexibility makes it suitable for a wide range of applications such as an emergency housing.Designed by Slovakian group Nice Architects represents a great housing solution for planet Earth. The Architects also thought about urban enviroment (areas with high rent) and the shape of it being more compact.
It's an egg-shaped capsule powered by sunlight and wind. By generating it's own clean energy it means the Ecocapsule can be situated anywhere. The capsule powers itself through solar cells that are on top of the roof, almost covering it. Armed with 750W wind turbine, the curved shapenot only allows for collection of rainwater (filters make it clean and good for human use) but also maximizes energy efficiency. Its'a an 8 meter square space, with bed, workspace/dinning area, bathroom, storage and kitchenette.
Rething my main project, design for distaster. It's to prevent a building falling down. Focuses on the greenery, and how we can change the structure without using acutal materials. I will be using willow, and cropping it down properly, to help my structure grow healthy and strong. I have realised that I would be relying on weather a lot. As a designer, there isnt much I can do about global warming. It's how a designer I can make a big statement and let people change their way of thinking. Saving energy, not only on the production but also throughout life cycle of willow, and giving life to wildlife.
